Cook Associates have gained planning consent for two large detached properties to replace an existing run down house at St Margaret’s Bay, Kent. The existing property occupies a large terraced plot which has elevated views toward the Goodwin Sands and the French coastline.
The dwellings have been carefully designed to ensure that they sit comfortably within the topography of the landscape. The site and surrounding area is heavily planted with mature trees and is located within a Conservation area and is close to an AONB. The units are carefully sited to avoid conflict with any existing trees whilst at the same time maximising views of the English Channel.
The front elevation reflects a more traditional form of the original house and neighbouring properties, with a pitched roof, brick facade and smaller proportioned windows to give privacy from the road. To the rear, the elevation is opened up to the landscaping and sea views beyond with full height glazing and a curved balcony which runs the full width of the property.
