Cooks have been engaged to provide additional flats to a site in Islington which comprises of an existing 3 storey building. Originally in office use, the existing building has now been converted to flats under changes to the permitted development rules.
Two schemes have been prepared for this site. The first is a scheme for two additional storeys containing 6 flats over the existing building. The exposed steel frame emphasises the structural grid of the existing building below.
The second scheme is for a side extension plus one additional storey over the existing. Due to the necessity to maintain neighbouring rights of light, the proposal has been stepped away from the adjoining houses. This provided the opportunity for green roof terraces.
