Cook Associates were approached to design a replacement dwelling in the country side at Cranbrook in Kent. The existing property was a late 20th century chalet bungalow which the client and his family had outgrown. Cooks were engaged to design a substantial family home in its place. To reduce the impact of a larger property a semi-basement level was created which opened out onto a sunken courtyard.
Accommodation was given generous areas of glass and oriented towards open fields. A large detached garage hidden beneath an earth bund was also approved.
