Cook Associates have submitted a planning application to Dover District Council for a new dwelling at St Margaret’s Bay. Due to the site being located outside of the defined development boundary the scheme is for a NPPF 55 house which requires a development of innovative design and outstanding quality.
The ‘Zedbra’ House, named in part from the roof form, uses a sophisticated site generated thermal power supply system never before used in the UK. The scheme sits on a steeply sloping site which enjoys views across the English Channel to France.
The entrance leads onto an east / west aligned upper gallery which cuts through the plan of the house with directs views towards St. Margaret’s Bay and the channel beyond. The gallery bridges over a double height living area at lower level which leads out onto a large terrace area.
